What did you do this past week?

This past week, I unfortunately was completely swamped with work. It oftentimes felt like I didn’t even have enough hours in the day to get everything done. Between two projects, grading, quizzes, and a few assignments, there wasn’t much else I had time for this week. I’m definitely glad to be done with it, but it’s looking like next week will also be quite busy.

What’s in your way?

Lack of sleep. I usually make sure I get enough sleep, and in fact, most of the time prioritize sleeping over anything else because I just don’t function well without it. However, I had to stay up pretty late basically every night this week, so I’m feeling really burnt out. Hopefully I can spend this weekend rejuvenating so I can finish strong before spring break.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I will continue working on my networks project with my partner, catch up on some of my work that was neglected from last week, and grade CS439 exams.

If you read it, what did you think of the Open-Closed Principle?

I enjoyed getting a little more insight into a lot of the OOD paradigms that we learned freshman year. I kind of accepted them as fact without putting much thought into why certain ideas were proper design and why others weren’t. I also thought it was interesting that the author considered some of what I thought to be bad design as just bad style; not sure if I agree or disagree with that.

What was your experience of arrays, iterators, and algorithms?

I thought this week was a little confusing actually, I’m going to need to spend a bit of time reviewing my notes. The many different types of iterators are hard to keep track of, as well as the different operations each one can do.

What made you happy this week?

I was very relieved whenever I turned in both Voting and a project I had for another class.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is to use tmux when working with the lab machines. I found out about it for the first time this week, and I don’t know how I’ve gone this long without it. My ssh connection to the lab machines always used to time out really quickly, but now I don’t have to worry about it anymore.
